About Marlborough, New Zealand

Marlborough, New Zealand.

Never was there created a country, more beautiful than or as diverse as New Zealand.

The scenery consists of Snow capped mountains, glaciers, thermal activity with geysers, sub tropical rain forest, beaches bush and more. All are part of two large Islands, the North and South, plus several smaller ones. Stewart Island is the largest of these and is often referred to as the third Island, which is situated at the bottom of the South Island.

The two main islands are separated by Cook Strait (Named after the English explorer Captain James Cook who was the first European to explore New Zealand’s coastline thoroughly around 1769) this stretch of water supports good Air transport and Ferry services, for easy travel within New Zealand.

The Total land area of New Zealand is about the size of the United Kingdom, Italy or the state of Colorado in the USA. It is approximately 270,535 sq km.

The North Island has a central plateau that is volcanically active. Rotorua is seen as the thermal wonderland of New Zealand and is approximately three and a half hours driving from Auckland, NZ’s largest city, whilst the backbone of the South Island is the Southern Alps. A range of Snowy top Mountains and Glaciers, which run almost the length of the Island. Both Islands have beautiful lakes and mountains and are delights to trampers, trout fishermen and Snow Skiers alike.

The population is a very multi cultural society of almost 4 million people. The Maoris are considered to be the native people of the country, but there is approximately 74 % NZ European (Pakeha), 14% NZ Island Polynesians and 5% Asian with other minority peoples, such as Italian, Greek, South African, Dutch, German and  American to name a few.

We must not forget that we also have about 60 million sheep.

Marlborough, the home of THE HONEY COLLECTION, is the Eastern Province situated at the Top of the South Island of New Zealand. It is known as NZ’s sunshine capital, with more than 2400 Sunshine hours per annum.

It is recognized world wide for its Wines and Olive Oils, grown on fertile alluvial soil. Currently it produces around 40% of the nations wine and has gained international recognition for its outstanding Sauvignon Blancs, Rieslings Chardonnays, Gewürztraminer, Pinot Gris and Pinot Noirs.  The Olive oils produced in the province have also received international acclaim. There are some 40 plus cellar doors attached to Vineyards, hence a strong tourist industry has developed around this, with wine tours by coach or cycle tours readily available.

The Marlborough Sounds, are drowned glacial valleys and much of the steep hillsides are covered either with New Zealand Native Bush and ferns, or Manuka , the shrub that is Native to New Zealand and from where allot of the Honey used in our manufacturing comes from.

Boating, fishing, bush walks and photography are very popular pastimes in this exceptionally lovely part of our province.

Blenheim is the capital of Marlborough and is nestled amongst a landscape of grape vines, which march across the valley and it has a population of 22,000 with a further 20,000 in the surrounding area.

Picton is the gateway to the Marlborough Sounds and the Sea Port where the Inter Island Ferry crossings to Wellington our Capital City in the North Island, leave from.

Other small regional town are Havelock where our NZ Green-Lipped Muscle Industry is based and then Kaikoura, the most South eastern town, which is unique, as it is situated on a rocky peninsular with the sea on one side and snow capped mountains on the other.  Whale, seal and dolphin watching tours are a must when visiting this area.

With so much nature and so many beautiful products produced in this region, it seems fitting that our country is often called "The Clean Green New Zealand" and that our slogan is "For Natural Beauty Naturally"
